Why I Believe In God: Because I Don’t Always Agree With Him.

The God of the Bible is not entirely palatable. Within every culture, humanity finds something about Him either incredible offensive or hopelessly outdated. I may mention the doctrine of Hell, or the moral statements made in regards to homosexuality, some of the most debated and despised concepts of Biblical Literature. I believe the fact that there are some aspects of scripture which consistently rub humanity the wrong way may be evidence for, not evidence against, the same Biblical God.

For instance, I believe we can all agree there is not such thing as a perfect culture. From this stems the idea that if culture indeed contains fallacies in thought or ideals then no doubt at some level the Biblical God must conflict or offend. For some odd reason every society believes itself the pinnacle human existence and the full evolution of human culture, however with the new year comes new ideals and shifts in values. Culture is ever changing, and how arrogant must the participants of this current American culture be to claim that they, at this moment in the history of earth, finally arrived and reached the truest and most definite ideals since the commencement of human existence. No doubt cultures several centuries years ago thought the same, yet we now perceive their generation as foolish and ignorant. Indeed if we could understand and agreed with this Biblical God entirely then part of us must wonder what is so special about Him at all. If the Biblical God truly contains infinite properties and resides out of time in space then there must be to infinite pieces of Him which are foreign or confusing to us. My point in all of this being that God does not bind himself nor His character to the whims of culture so the fact that Scripture contains large sections of doctrine which culture currently finds offensive or old-fashioned may serve to confirm this transcendent all-knowing being.

May the Lord continue to bless you as you learn and teach about Him. The God of the Universe isn’t going to be easy to comprehend. Men have spent their lives just trying to figure Him out in just some areas.
